New Smyrna Beach is a town full of people who are proud of where they live and who are proactive in protecting and preserving the beautiful white sand beaches. On any given day, you will find multiple people walking the beach with buckets in hand, picking up litter as they go. What’s even more inspiring are organized cleanups that have been happening more and more often. At least once a month, you can find a group of dozens of locals, old and young, coming together to cleanup the beach and to promote the importance of protecting the coastal environment.
In celebration of Earth Day, the next planned group cleanup is Saturday, April 21st, beginning at 9:00am at the Flagler Avenue beach approach. Anyone who wants to participate is encouraged to join for a long or as short a time as they wish. A limited amount of buckets, disposable gloves, and grabbers will be available on a first-come first-serve basis. Participants are encouraged to bring their own reusable gloves and a reusable water bottle. For more information on group cleanups, check out @keepNSBclean on Instagram!
